A Day In Lake Geneva
Traveling has always been one of my favorite ways to decompress and reconnect with myself by discovering new places and experiences. With safety in concern, that's not really a luxury we can take part in right now. Exploring our own backyard is the new norm, and luckily, Wisconsin has got a lot to offer! One of my favorite places to take a day trip is Lake Geneva. I discovered the town when we booked our wedding there, sight unseen, five years ago. Since then, we've fallen in love and make our way there multiple times a year. I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to spend the day to inspire you for your next day trip!
BOXED AND BURLAP
This coffee shop is a few minutes outside of Lake Geneva in Delavan, but it is a must stop every time I'm in the area. Boxed and Burlap is more than just a coffee shop - this renovated farmhouse has multiple buildings on the property where you can do anything from enjoying a morning yoga class to hosting a reception. If I could go back in time, I'd love to have a bridal shower here! I live for their chocolate donuts and lattes, and every corner of this place is picture perfect!
HORTICULTURAL HALL FARMER'S MARKET
If you happen to be in town on a Thursday, you're lucky enough to be able to head to the farmer's market! Dozens of vendors come together at the Horticultural Hall from 8a-1p through October, selling anything from fresh cheese, to crafts, to bouquets of flowers. It does get very crowded, so my advice is to arrive early and, more importantly, wear your mask! Wearing is caring, people!
The crowning jewel of Lake Geneva is the lake itself, and there are plenty of ways to take it all in. Lake Geneva Cruise Lines offers a variety of boat tours you can enjoy. We used their vessel, the Polaris, for our wedding ceremony, and have gone on a few other tours for different occasions. If you prefer to be your own captain, there are plenty of rental companies that you can take advantage of. These docks will always have a special place in my heart! The docks also the host of the annual Ice Sculpture Festival in the winter during Winterfest. There's fun to be had all year long!
TIKI TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS AT THE MAXWELL MANSION
Summer time is party time in Lake Geneva and the Maxwell Mansion is joining in on the fun. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 11, you can get all day access to their swimming pool by purchasing a drink at their tiki bar! We got there early enough to enjoy my Aperol spritz in their chic little cabana. Not a bad way to beat the heat! But keep in mind, this is a hot spot and gets very busy, very fast.
My absolute favorite style of pizza is Neapolitan pizza - a deliciously chewy crust with dollops of fresh mozzarella. Oakfire makes a drool inducing pizza that cooks at 1000 degrees for 90 seconds, which blows my mind. I always opt for the Buffala Mozzarella pizza and top it off with prosciutto, and it's heavenly every time. Add enjoying your meal on the second floor patio overlooking the lake into the mix...how could you say no to that?
GRAND GENEVA RESORT
Yet another spot in Lake Geneva that was included in our wedding - but for good reason! Before the pandemic, the Chophouse brunch was my absolute favorite meal to dine on. We had our reception dinner there, and have enjoyed most of our anniversaries celebrating on the Embers Terrace. Even now, I'm so happy to grab a glass of champagne from the lobby bar and enjoy the view. I've got nothing but great memories at this resort and will come back time and time again! If you happen to be staying the night at the Grand Geneva Resort, I strongly urge you to take advantage of the pool area. I could spend the entire day there soaking up the sun!
There are so many fantastic things to do in Lake Geneva. You can walk around the entirety of the lake and check out the properties that enjoy that view daily. You can grab a fish bowl at my favorite bar, Fat Cats. Sample the cuisine at so many restaurants, like Medusa. Shop the boutiques that line the streets. Park it on a bench and just take in the view. You'll definitely find something to do in Lake Geneva.
