Dusty Blues & Rusty Hues

Updated: Nov 30, 2019

Fall fashion is probably my favorite season for style, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone there. But I'm always looking for new ways to switch things up from years prior so I don't get stuck in a rut. I love a good jewel tone, but sometimes it just feels overdone! This year, I took a look at my closet and noticed that a number of the pieces I've accumulated lately are following a definite color scheme. Dusty blues and rusty hues are a combo I've never really paid attention to before, and I'm starting to crush on incorporating pastels in your autumn palettes. If you keep your blues light enough, you're definitely not repping da Bears! Close call...

I know, I know, you just saw this chenille...but so did literally every person I pass because I wear it all the g dang time. But things changed when I came across this Forever 21 hat. I get my packages delivered to the store for the free shipping and 10% discount on a new item when you pick up, so I simply couldn't resist! It goes so perfectly with my chenille shawl, this duo will for sure be on repeat. I wanted to keep this witchy boho vibe going so I added my new favorite stone and tassel necklace and choker from Francesca's and of course, my funky snake print Target boots. My target jeans and henley crop tank helped me keep it low key underneath. Not gonna lie guys, I felt cool AF.

Another fun way to wear this combo is together in one piece - let someone else do the work for ya. I got this duster on Amazon for the pattern. It had a hood, but I chopped that sucker right off - there is plenty of fabric on a duster, I don't need to be overwhelmed with a hood, too. My new rusty colored hat complemented it perfectly, and to warm up my cool dusty blue separates, I paired it all with my chestnut Discovery over the knee boots and a belt. I actually won these Aldo shades in a giveaway from Colors of Mei! I love any oversized frame, the bigger the better! The gradient lenses of this pair tied the whole look together. This particular palette reminded me of a desert sunset!

A super simple way to start off with this color combo is with a closet staple - your denim jacket! I almost always pair it with a dress or a top, so the jacket itself is never the main focus. To switch it up, I wore it buttoned up with a pair of black jeans for a quick and easy put together cool girl look. Pair it with your favorite booties and a rust colored scarf and you're walking fall! Chestnut and gold are two colors that pair well with this palette, but it's easily interchangeable with lighter and darker neutrals, too. So versatile!

My final favorite way to rock this combo is to punctuate with one piece - that is, stick to mostly one (my jeans, cardi, scarf, and hat are all dusty blue) and pick one piece of the other color to really make it pop! This blue Target hat is a top runner for my favorites, it's such an unexpected color! Luckily, I have a lot of items that match and can wear it all the time! I've also got this pumpkin H&M tee on repeat. It's the epitome of a fall staple item and the color warms me up on those chilly, windy fall days. To make sure my cardi combo stole the show, I wore these neutral beige over the knee boots from, you guessed it, Discovery. I'm sorry guys. I'm a broken record but the deals are undeniable and I'm a creature of budget friendly habit. Hopefully these looks inspire an outfit or two for you this fall!

Got it!
