The Kimpton Hotel Monaco - Pittsburgh
Updated: Nov 30, 2019
Business or pleasure? I was traveling on business, but my trip quickly turned to pleasure when I found out I'd be staying at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. Since this was my first trip to Pittsburgh, I had no idea what I was in for. The Golden Triangle did not disappoint! The hotel's aesthetic is 100 - eclectic and funky with color around every corner.
The building goes back to 1903 and is surrounded by equally impressive old churches and modern skyscrapers. Once you enter the lobby, you're greeted by the loveliest floral chandelier above you. I've included a photo of it from the hotel's website, and one from Virtually Nonexistent because mine just didn't do it justice. If that doesn't have you spellbound, the boldly striped staircase to your left will likely catch your eye. Naturally, I had to pose for a picture on it!
Up the stairs there are many surprises! From a blue bird cage gallery wall, to a canary yellow chaise, this lobby area has artistic flair in every nook and cranny. This also happens to be the area where they host their complimentary wine happy hour. You heard me. I'm here for it. Even the hallways were incredible! Our floor had a beautiful black floral wallpaper and each door was a pop of turquoise. Details, y'all.
After our flight, I was ready to kick back and relax, and what a place to do so. These beds were incredibly comfy. The green velvet tufted headboards added a luxurious feel, and I'm crazy for the printed pillows! The combination of green and yellow made me feel like I was back at home - go Pack, go!
I also can't stop gushing about the houndstooth details. From the classic black and white curtains, to the yellow walls in the bathroom, I was surrounded, and all about it. Clearly, they had the aesthetic nailed, and on top of it all they had great amenities! I know I already mentioned the wine happy hour, but I'm going to say it a little louder for the people in the back...wine happy hour! Another great detail? Every room is equipped with a yoga mat for your yogi pleasure! So convenient, because traveling with my own mat is definitely not. They even have bicycles to rent!
I can't say enough good things about my stay at the Hotel Monaco. The only bummer was that their 9th floor Biergarten wasn't open for the season until the week following my stay. Timing is everything, man. I did get a real chuckle out of one detail...the hotel restaurant, The Commoner, had a curious item listed on their sparkling wine menu. At the very top of the list? "The Champagne of Beers - Wisconsin". I couldn't. I can't. C'mon you guys! Like I said, a real chuckle. If you're ever looking for a place to stay on your next trip to PGH, I totally recommend the Kimpton Hotel Monaco!
